Weekend in St. Petersburg, FL
A few friends and I recently met in St. Petersburg, FL for a friend’s wedding and turned it into a school reunion. It was affordable and tons of fun! Plane tickets were not unreasonable, about $250/person and we rented a beach house, which slept 12 for the reasonable sum of $600 for the week, rented a couple of cars and a few kayaks, bought some beer and mixed drinks and we were set! We were within walking distance of St Petersburg beach, which was nice to visit but nothing spectacular. During the days we drove out to DeSoto beach, which was amazing! The beach was huge and although there were quite a few people around the entrance, we walked a bit down the beach and found a quiet place where we could escape from the screaming sand-throwing children (someday they’ll be fun, but not just yet). The water was warm in May and there was a nice little bay. We swam a bit, took the kayaks out a bit, sunbathed and chilled. It was awesome. We also visited the Salvador Dali museum in downtown St. Petersburg, which I would highly recommend to anyone who loves abstract art. All in all, I would highly recommend taking a trip to St. Petersburg as an affordable place for family and friends to meet up and have an awesome fun filled weekend or summer! We're planning on heading somewhere else for our reunion next year, but would definitely return to St. Petersburg, FL if the opportunity arose. |
